Restoring Diamond Lake
State biologists conduct a survey to see if their dramatic and expensive attack on the invasive tui chubb has been successful. Introduced to the lake in the 1980's, this non-native bait fish had taken over the lake and ruined the habitat for the native trout. In a drastic effort to fight back, officials use a poison called rotenone to wipe out fish life to allow the lake to start over from scratch.

Umatilla Contaminated Fish
Levels of pollution in the Columbia River basin are so high that the fish are dangerous to eat. Native people in the Northwest, who's diet and traditions depend on salmon, are particularly at risk of exposure to the high levels of pesticides and mercury found in the fish. Tribes along the contaminated Columbia River are working together to rid the river and its tributaries of contamination and restore a healthy salmon population.
