- Every fall, Hawkwatch International tracks the migration of hawks and other raptors. The public is welcome at the Bonney Butte observation point near Mt. Hood. During September and October volunteers observe and record raptors as they migrate over on their way south. About 45 raptors fly over on a typical day, but a hundred birds is not uncommon. We also watch as hawks are captured and banded to learn more about their migration patterns.
