Summer Lake Wildlife Management Area is located about 70 miles south of La Pine. The refuge is home to thousands of birds, including snow geese, whistling swans, and over 200 other species. It is a flat alkaline marsh that was set aside in 1944 to provide wildlife habitat as well as hunting opportunities for sportsmen.
