For a few weeks each fall, Chapman elementary school in NW Portland is home to the largest concentration of Vaux swifts in North America. The thousands of swifts who come to roost in the school's chimney provide a bird-watching spectacle that draws crowds from around the city. Volunteers from Portland Audubon Society are on hand to answer the public's questions.
