Despite years of protection for Oregon's spotted owls, researchers have found little evidence of recovery. They have discovered that a new species of owl, the eastern barred owl, has moved into the protected habitat areas and is competing with the spotted owl for limited resources. The new invader is having a dramatic impact on the endangered species' survival.
