The pacific lamprey, native to the Northwest, is so primitive that it's ancestors are among the earliest species in the fossil record. The species originated almost 350 million years ago. This unlovely fish was ignored by researchers in favor of game fish such as Trout and Salmon. Researchers near Cedar Creek are now looking more closely at the Lamprey as it's life cycle mimics that of many Salmon.
