Oregon Experience: Wayne Morse

The Morse-Packwood Confrontation

Wayne Morse's 1968 debate with Bob Packwood showcased the very different styles of the two candidates. It proved to be a pivotal event in the campaign.

Sponsored by the City Club of Portland on October 25th the televised event was called, at Morse's insistence, as "The Morse-Packwood Confrontation." It has rarely been seen since that 1968 election. We present it here in its entirety.

(Special thanks to: the City Club of Portland; Willamette University Archives and Special Collections, Robert W. Packwood Papers; and Senator Bob Packwood)
