Brainstorm how your life is affected by tourism in Oregon. Do you live in an area which has tourist attractions? Which of these tourist attractions involve eco-tourism or "sustainable nature-based tourism?"

Use a road map of Oregon to locate places discussed in the video program. These places include Mt. Hood, the Columbia River, Curry County, Portland, the Oregon Coast, Columbia Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Timberline Lodge, Bend, Mt. Bachelor, Smith Rock, High Desert Museum, Siskiyou National Forest, Gold Beach, Port Orford, Brookings, Rogue River, Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, and Umatilla. Are any of these places located near you?

Define the characteristics of land and water resources that are suitable for sustainable nature-based tourism. Where are such lands located in Oregon?

Collect pictures and brochures from chambers of commerce and tourist destinations in Oregon. Display these in the classroom and use them for further research about tourism in Oregon.

Read and compare Indian legends that relate to land and water resources in Oregon. What is the purpose of the Indian legends? Create your own unique legend to explain the formation, purpose, or special event related to a natural landmark or feature near where you live.
