to your goals and materials and current events. Adapt the following
suggestions for pre-viewing activities, or create your own activities.
Brainstorm
how your life is affected by tourism in Oregon. Do you live in
an area which has tourist attractions? Which of these tourist
attractions involve eco-tourism or "sustainable nature-based
tourism?"
Use
a road map of Oregon to locate places discussed in the video program.
These places include Mt. Hood, the Columbia River, Curry County,
Portland, the Oregon Coast, Columbia Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Timberline
Lodge, Bend, Mt. Bachelor, Smith Rock, High Desert Museum, Siskiyou
National Forest, Gold Beach, Port Orford, Brookings, Rogue River,
Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, and Umatilla. Are any of these places
located near you?
Define
the characteristics of land and water resources that are suitable
for sustainable nature-based tourism. Where are such lands located
in Oregon?
Collect
pictures and brochures from chambers of commerce and tourist destinations
in Oregon. Display these in the classroom and use them for further
research about tourism in Oregon.
Read
and compare Indian legends that relate to land and water resources
in Oregon. What is the purpose of the Indian legends? Create your
own unique legend to explain the formation, purpose, or special
event related to a natural landmark or feature near where you
live.
