Oregon Territory

November 28, 2003 - Covering the Oregon Terror Trail

The first of a series of sentences were handed down to members of the so-called "Portland Seven" - varying prison terms of up to 18 years for crimes ranging from "conspiring to levy war" against United States troops in Afghanistan to providing "material support" to the Taliban.

To critique local media coverage of alleged terror cells in our own backyard, Oregon Territory convened its own panel of "ombudspeople:" Steve Engelberg, managing editor for enterprise projects at the Oregonian, Mark Zusman, editor of Willamette Week, and Tom Bivins, professor of media ethics at the University of Oregon.
