Local governments and churches have different approaches to dealing with homeless people. The city of Portland tries to place homeless people into permanent housing with the help of various non-profit organizations.

Churches help out in different ways, such as providing meals and information. This week, we explore these different approaches and discuss the role of the government and churches in helping people living in poverty.

Host: Allison Frost

Report: Rob Manning, OPB radio reporter

Guest: Carmel Bentley, ruling elder at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverton; Rev. Bill Stroop, pastor of St. George's Episcopal Church, Roseburg.
