June 10, 2005 — Church of the Outdoors
Politically, religion in the USA is a hot topic. Americans increasingly are relying on morals and religious beliefs to determine who they elect.
But in Oregon, that trend isn't as strong as in other parts of the USA.
Oregon has the highest proportion of people in the nation who say they have no religion at all. One hypothesis is that many Oregonians celebrate their spirituality in nature -- a concept dubbed 'the church of the outdoors'.
This week, we're reprising a show about Oregonians and religion -- a show that explores "the Church of the Outdoors."
Host: Christy George
Guest: Molly Gloss, award winning author; David Lesley, exec. dir. of Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon; and Steve Amen, host of Oregon Field Guide.
