Vice-President Dick Cheney's chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was indicted today on five counts of perjury, making false statements and obstruction of justice. The case involves who "outed" CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson, whose work on weapons of mass destruction was classified.

Libby resigned today, to prepare his defense in a trial which is likely to involve high-level government witnesses - perhaps including Vice-President Cheney.

This week, we consider the local impact of this case, which threatens to consume, distract and possibly paralyze Washington, D.C. and the White House itself.
