It’s flu season in the Pacific Northwest and this year we’re facing a unique concern–Avian flu H5N1.

While the presence of H5N1 hasn’t been confirmed in the northwest, preparations for it’s arrival–and a possible flu pandemic– are well underway.

This week, we explore the differences between avian flu and influenza, and take a look at how local healthcare workers are gearing up to deal with a possible flu pandemic in the northwest.

Host: Christy George

Guest: Dr. Mel Kohn, state of Oregon epidemiologist and administrator of the state office of disease prevention.
