February 3, 2006 — What is a Terrorist?
President Bush calls the federal government program that spies on Americans the "terrorist surveillance program". It turns out, though, that plenty of Americans who might not seem like terrorists are under surveillance by their own government for a variety of reasons.
For example, a peace group that protested outside Haliburton's Houston headquarters in 2004 year ended up being investigated by a Pentagon program that tracks threats and terrorist plots in the US. Greenpeace, animal rights activists, and even lawyers are also being investigated as potential terrorists.
Today we'll attempt to answer the question: what is a terrorist?
