Sunday marks the third anniversary of the war in Iraq, but for many of us lucky enough to be able to turn the images of war on and off with the flick of a remote control, the fighting in Iraq has a distant quality.

This week, we look at people who keep the war close, talking with an Oregon National Guard family. The husband served twice in Iraq, and his wife gave birth to their son while he was overseas.

We also sent OPB’s Kristian Foden-Vencil out to talk with peace activists who have been gathering every week in Pioneer Courthouse Square to protest the war, to hear why they have persisted for three years.

Host: Eve Epstein, filling in for Christy George

Guests: Oregon National Guard specialist Barry Prescott, and his wife, Linda Law, an attorney with the city of Portland.

Reporter: Kristian Foden-Vencil
