September 8, 2006 — Weight of the World
Tune into the news these days and you're guaranteed to hear at least one bleak story about war, poverty, or another struggle facing the world.
So is it possible to take in all this desolate news without becoming cynical about the world we live in?
Today we're exploring this question from three different perspectives — a woman who has taken up running to support women in the Congo, a person who writes books and a popular blog, and a news photographer who covers war zones for a local newspaper.
Host: April Baer
Guests: Lisa Shannon, Run for Congo Women; Laila Lalami, book author and Moorish Girl blogger; and Benjamin Brink, staff photographer, The Oregonian.
Web Feature: Audio slideshow of Benjamin Brink's photos from around the world
We welcome your thoughts on how you're dealing with the "Weight of the World". You can post them here.
