Ralph Nader crusaded against a deceptive American auto industry that didn't care whether the cars they manufactured were safe or not. He eventually got Congress to pass several bills improving automobile safety.

He embraced environmental issues and started a string of citizen action groups.

Then in 2000, he ran for president as the Green Party candidate. While Al Gore won the popular vote, a U.S. Supreme Court decision gave contested electoral votes in Florida to George W. Bush, and Bush became president.

Many people accused Nader of being a spoiler in this race, even though media recounts showed that Al Gore won more votes in Florida than George W. Bush.

This week, we're talking to Nader about this election, about his life as a citizen activist, and about his new book, "The Seventeen Traditions".

Host: Christy George
