While fifteen is tough age for just about everyone, it's harder when you're dealing with alcohol or drug problems and committing crimes. In fact, it turns out that fifteen is the average age of youth held in Multnomah County juvenile detention.

With this in mind, Multnomah County has started a program to help teenagers stay on the right track. The program provides adult mentors for teens who may have made poor decisions that landed them in juvenile detention.

Part of this program is a book of stories by a variety of people about what it was like for them at fifteen-and how caring adults made a positive difference in their lives. Teenagers are also encouraged to write their own stories to reflect on their own lives.

This week, you'll hear some of these stories from the teens themselves as they serve time for a variety of crimes.

Read selected stories from "When You Were Fifteen."

Host: Christy George

Guests: Dave Koch, Assistant Director, Juvenile Services Division, Multnomah County. Also, Hota Big Back, Melissa Blake, Jeff Byrd, & Kyle Malone.
