Lord, how did we miss this? Britney Spears not only attended graduation at Pendleton High this weekend, she also shook hands with all the grads. Turns out Mr. Spears (a.k.a. Kevin Federline) is related to one of this year's grads, and the couple was attending in support of the family.

Baker man shares moment in history with new pope
This is an odd little story--John Edvalson was helping guard some German POWs during WWII who apparently counted a man named Joseph Ratzinger among their numbers. Ratzinger is now Pope Benedict XVI. He doesn't really remember the guy, but has a good story to tell about what was going on toward the end of the war.

Port blasts back at state in dredge battle
The Port of Astoria has been fined $3,600 by the Oregon Division of State Lands, which claims the port put harmful materials into the Columbia River estuary and didn’t follow the rules as it dredged the slips in the Astoria marina this spring. I run a local website at www.news4neighbors.net . We're picking up and publishing the Portland Stories Project that April Baer did a piece on last month. I'm hoping you could send this on to April, and that April might find what we're doing interesting enough to maybe have us on for an interview.
