What Two Supreme Court Vacancies Mean for Oregon

0906_peterson.jpgThere's been a delay for the confirmation hearings that were to begin today for Judge John Roberts, due to the death Sunday of the Supreme Court's Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

Justice Rehnquist's death, while not entirely unexpected, has put an element of uncertainty in legal matters that concern Oregon. And there is room for another new face on the court. John Roberts was originally intended to replace the retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, now he's been resubmitted as candidate for Chief Justice.

Edwin Peterson, the retired Chief Justice of the Oregon State Supreme Court, is a Distinguished Jurist in Residence at Willamette University's College of Law. He spoke with OPB Morning Host April Baer about these developments.
