Sustainable Fashion Featured At City Hall
Posted by Michael Clapp at August 4, 2006 01:28 PM
Portland held its first fashion show at City Hall Thursday evening. The show featured the work of four designers committed to creating environmentally sustainable fashion.
Amid flashing cameras and techno music, models exhibited clothing made of materials that are easy to grow, including bamboo and hemp.
Designer and Portland native Anna Cohen explains what makes a product sustainable.
Anna Cohen: "I look at water use. I look at raw materials, recycling and reclamation, social equity side -- so who is working on this product -- and waste, trying to reduce waste."
The show was part of City Hall's First Thursday cultural events. It was sponsored by Portland Fashion Week and Portland's Arts and Culture Commissioner Sam Adams.
