Tune into the news these days and you're guaranteed to hear at least one bleak story about war, poverty, or another struggle facing the world.
So is it possible to take in all this desolate news without becoming cynical about the world we live in?
Today we're exploring this question from three different perspectives -- a woman who has taken up running to support women in the Congo, a person who writes books and a popular blog, and a news photographer who covers war zones for a local newspaper.

Since the first Gulf war we have been on a very long, savage road that leads no where.
Society manifests this in how it behaves and mingles with itself. After all of these years we are learning to be very less fore-giving with ourselves. These intolerance's are, I think, consequences of what we seem to be all about because of our international deeds and our failures.
We need in our leaders people that are not revengeful but people that can put the best light on something bad and then forge ahead and on to better and brighter light. We need someone who is capable of leading without personal political agendas.
All of these anti people things this government has involved itself in has left me pretty discouraged for the past twenty years. We have a government that is mean to its own people and people abroad.
