That stocking stuffer at the end of our show this week was April’s loving send-up of Laurie Anderson’s
classic, “O Superman”.
The song itself takes inspiration from a snippet of Massenet’s opera, El Cid. (Check out the second sound clip on the linked page to hear Enrico Caruso’s version.)
April says, “Every year, some friends and I make a Christmas record. There are some genuinely amazing musicians in the group, and then there are those of us just contributing the most ridiculous things we can think of, karaoke tracks, our kids singing, tone poems about toy packaging. I’d had this idea for five years before I had the nerve to try it.”
Anderson fans may also find this inspiring. Pass the eggnog.
