We have been following the growth of Portland’s South Waterfront, and one of the ongoing issues has been how much affordable housing the neighborhood will include. Brad Schmidt from The Oregonian recently tracked down controversial documents from the Portland Housing Bureau. The Bureau released a memo regarding the developments, but evidently deleted portions including the developer’s reticence for building affordable housing. The development of affordable housing at the waterfront has so far been a disappointing endeavor for the city. To date, only 209 out of the proposed 582 units have been built.
