President Obama announced Saturday that after five years as a prisoner of the Taliban, Bowe Bergdahl has been released. His parents are eager to welcome him back to his hometown of Hailey, Idaho. That won’t happen for a while, though. Bergdahl is currently in a hospital in Germany and he has a long reintegration process ahead of him. His father told reporters at a press conference in Boise on Sunday that Bergdahl has had trouble speaking English.
Some have criticized Obama’s decision to release five Taliban prisoners in exchange for Bergdahl. Others are asking if the release of the last American prisoner of war signals an end to the war on terror.
We’ll talk with reporter Jessica Robinson, who has been covering this story since 2011.
