Any current discussion involving the Portland International Airport simply has to include the phenomenon of the #pdxcarpet. Since the airport announced it would be replacing the carpet, nostalgia and nostalgia-related products went into high gear. The carpet even has its own Twitter account and Facebook page.
As part its seasonal tourism campaign, Travel Portland has installed a huge freestanding cuckoo clock, handcrafted (of course) with references to many of the virtues Portland is known for (ahem BEER).

The airport is working on other structural changes. Much of the $98 million approved recently by the Port of Portland commission will go to rearrange and expand concourses. But it’s not all kumbaya and rainbows. There’s a big vendor and restaurant changeover that may leave some people without work. Others are pushing for higher wages and better benefits.
What’s your experience at PDX? Do you think you’d ever change your travel plans to come to Portland because of #pdxcarpet, the cuckoo clock, or other features of the airport?
