Nancy Golden Talks About How To Improve Education In Oregon

OPB | Oct. 9, 2013 12:06 p.m. | Updated: Oct. 9, 2013 2:41 p.m.

Two and a half years ago, Oregon Governor Kitzhaber created a whole new board structure called the Oregon Education Investment Board to oversee the entire educational system. Nancy Golden was serving as the governor’s education adviser at the time. She called it a “big umbrella board that overlooks this 0-20 seamless system.”

Now, Nancy Golden heads that board, having been chosen unanimously a few months after her predecessor Rudy Crew left after a year on the job. It’s now her charge to create and oversee the strategies that will achieve the ambitious education goals that the governor has laid out. We’ll talk to her about education standards, K-12 and higher education funding, teacher preparedness and more.

Do you have kids in public school? What do you think Oregon’s Chief Education Officer should be focused on?
