The enrollment deadline for the Affordable Care Act is March 31st, but Oregon’s problem-plagued Cover Oregon program has received a month-long extension. This news follows the Obama administration’s announcement that extensions would be granted to people who have begun to apply for ACA coverage but aren’t finished by Monday.
Cover Oregon has also been in the news because of a report about the botched roll-out of the Oregon exchange, as well as news that legislators were having meetings with Cover Oregon that were closed to the public. The Statesman Journal claims these meetings might violate state law. Reporter Hannah Hoffman also found that the legislators participating in the meetings weren’t aware of the jobs they were supposed to fill. Namely:
- Recommend candidates to the Cover Oregon Board
- Review the development of the Cover Oregon business plan
- Advise Cover Oregon on the implementation of the exchange
We’ll talk to Hoffman about the extension of the enrollment deadline and the meetings of the legislative oversight committee.
