Does Mandatory Sick Leave Work For Everyone?

OPB | June 23, 2014 12:06 p.m. | Updated: June 23, 2014 1:34 p.m.

Eugene could be the next Northwest city to require employers to offer paid sick time to their employees. The city council voted on June 18 to draft a mandatory sick leave ordinance based, in part, on the one that took effect in Portland earlier this year. One key difference is that the Eugene ordinance would not limit mandatory sick leave to employers with a certain number of employees like in Portland where it’s limited to businesses that employ at least six people.

After the Portland ordinance passed, an effort in the legislature to apply mandatory sick leave statewide got stuck in committee.

Do you work in Portland? Has your experience as an employee or an employer changed since the mandatory sick leave ordinance went into effect?
