The most expensive painting ever sold at auction, “Three Studies of Lucian Freud,” will be on display at Portland Art Museum starting this weekend. The 1969 Francis Bacon triptych sold for $142.4 million at a New York auction last month.
The bidder is still not publicly known, but the Portland Art Museum’s curatorial team already had a relationship with the mysterious buyer and was able convince him or her to show the piece as part of the museum’s Masterworks|Portland series.
The piece will be on display from Dec 21, 2013 - Mar 30, 2014. What do you want to know about this piece of art?
