Government Shutdown

OPB | April 8, 2011 9:06 a.m. | Updated: Sept. 10, 2013 9:59 p.m.

The Congressional fight over how much to cut the federal budget has so far resulted in a stalemate. The main agreement so far has been on continuing resolutions to put off a government shutdown. The latest deadline is Friday by midnight. Congressional leaders are not optimistic that an agreement will be reached in time to prevent the federal government from shutting down — like it did most recently in 1995. We’ll talk about the politics behind the possible shutdown and what could happen as a result.

Do you depend on services funded at least in part by the federal government? How would you be affected by a shutdown of the federal government? Have you been affected by the Oregon furloughs that have “shut down” the state government for one day at a time?
