Teachers in the Portland Public School District have been working without a contract for months. Students and other teacher advocates interrupted a recent school board meeting to express their support of teachers. The issues that need to be resolved include: salary, health care benefits, hiring practices, early retirement, workload and length of the school year.
OPB education reporter Rob Manning says both sides have made concessions and are relatively close on a number of items. We’ll talk with him about where things stand now and what we might expect in the coming weeks.
