Humanitarian Crisis In Iraq Intensifies

On Sunday, Sunni militants took over another city in the northern part of Iraq. Sectarian violence in Iraq has reached such crisis proportions that the U.S. government is considering targeted airstrikes in the country. President Obama has ruled out sending ground troops back into the country.

The already dire refugee crisis has only intensified with this latest news, with non governmental agencies like Portland-based Mercy Corps working to mobile necessities like food, water and temporary shelter. We’ll talk to first responder, Cassandra Nelson, who’s just returned from a trip to Iraq, and who’s been in the middle of the Syrian refugee crisis for the last three years.
