What started as a seemingly straightforward story about the return of an American POW quickly turned into a nationwide controversy over the circumstances of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s release as well as his capture almost five years ago. Soldiers from Bergdahl’s unit say he was a deserter, who was taken prisoner after walking away from his post. A planned rally in his hometown of Hailey, Idaho celebrating his release has been canceled. Organizers say concerns about large crowds and aggressive protesters led to the cancellation, but many people are still supportive of Bergdahl.

We’ll check back with reporter Jessica Robinson about how this story is unfolding in Hailey and beyond.
