Central Oregon’s economic recovery has been slower than the rest of the state, but recent numbers show that could be changing. Unemployment levels are still higher in Central Oregon than in other areas, but the pace of the region’s recovery has been faster than other parts of the state. The region’s jobless numbers are now lower than they have been in years. Those figures reflect job growth across a number of industries, including tourism, professional and business services, retail, and construction.
According to regional economist Damon Runberg, Central Oregon’s economy is still behind where it was at the height of the housing boom, but that might not be such a bad thing since steady growth is preferable to boom and bust cycles.
Do you live in Central Oregon? Are you feeling the economic recovery?
