The acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case in Florida sparked protests in cities around the country, including in Portland. Zimmerman successfully argued that he shot the unarmed teenager in self-defense.
Michael Alexander of the Urban League of Portland was among the hundreds in attendance at the North Portland gathering Sunday. Alexander says the ruling was heartbreaking and says justice was not served. He also says the country needs to have an honest conversation about racial profiling and he is hopeful that the Justice Department will restart an inquiry into the incident.
