Last week, Eric Shinseki stepped down as secretary of veteran affairs (VA) following public outrage about severe delays for people using the VA health care system.
The VA medical center in Phoenix failed to put 1,700 veterans on a wait list for appointments, which may have contributed to 17 deaths. Allegations of delayed care at VA medical centers nationwide have some calling for a serious reform of the system.
