Judge Michael McShane will hear oral arguments Wednesday afternoon from attorneys for a group of people who hope to overturn Oregon’s ban on same-sex marriage. Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum declined to defend the law, and until this week no one else stepped up to do so. On Monday, the National Organization for Marriage filed a motion to intervene in the case, and Judge McShane set a hearing on that motion for May 14.
The judge will still hear arguments against the ban from the plaintiffs’ lawyers on Wednesday. We’ll get legal analysis from lawyer Ed Trompke, an expert on the Oregon Constitution.
