Late last year, TriMet turned to crowdsourcing to name the new bridge across the Willamette River and thousands of suggestions poured in. Steve Novick wanted to name it after the cartoon character Lisa Simpson. More than 800 people supported calling it Kirk Reeves. Neither of those names made the cut when TriMet announced the four finalists on January 15. The finalists are:
- Abigail Scott Duniway, newspaper publisher and advocate for women’s voting rights
- Tillicum Crossing, a word in Chinook jargon that means “people”
- Wy’East, the Native American name for Mount Hood
- Cascadia Crossing, after the Cascade mountain range
TriMet is seeking public input on the four names, but the agency has the final say.
Which of those names works for you? Why?
