La Grande’s circuit court building is considered the worst in the state. After decades of lobbying the state for funds, Union County received notice last year that it would get $2 million to replace the county courthouse in La Grande.  But what was first a clear victory for court staff and county officials quickly muddied when county commissioners unanimously voted to site the new courthouse over the footprint of a building that houses services for the only domestic violence shelter within 80 miles. The county plans to demolish the building have lead to a lawsuit and community outcry.
