You may have noticed some new signs on I-5, I-405, Highway 217, and a few other places in the Portland Metro Area. According to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) these signs are designed to provide real-time updates for drivers to help make their trips safer and more efficient.
The data comes from sensors in the road that measure how many cars are on the road and how fast they are going. ODOT uses that information to update the signs to tell drivers how long it will take to get to the next interchange and to advise on speeds to avoid sudden stops at backups.
Have you seen the new traffic signs? Have they helped you in your commute?
