News Roundtable | Chronic Disease | Resistance GIS

  • Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death in Oregon, and cost Oregonians more than $8 billion a year in medical costs. OPB’s Ryan Haas tells about his series looking into the issue and the state’s attempts to reduce conditions like heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

  • Portland State University (PSU) graduate students Sachi Arakawa and Tim Hitchins are both studying geographic information systems (GIS) and they’re the co-organizers of the Resistance GIS mini-conference going on at PSU this weekend. We’ll talk to them about how activists are using GIS and why they say geographic data is not just neutral information.
