Two iconic Oregon brands are locked in a legal battle over a heavily trademarked name.
It all started last year, just before the annual Pendleton Round-Up. In honor of the hundredth anniversary of the event, the Round-Up Association released Let ‘er Buck Cologne. The organization began marketing the new product as “the official fragrance of the Pendleton Round-Up.” The Let ‘er Buck Cologne website proudly announced that Pendleton Woolen Mills (also a longtime sponsor of the rodeo) would be carrying the fragrance in their Pendleton and Portland stores.
It’s not clear exactly what transpired, but sometime between then and now, things changed. This month, Pendleton Woolen Mills filed suit against the Pendleton Round-Up Association over the use of the Pendleton name in connection with the Let ‘er Buck Cologne.
