School districts all around the Northwest are using portable classrooms to accommodate swelling student populations and a lack of funding for brick-and-mortar structures. The EarthFix team looked into the costs of using these temporary structures on a long-term basis as well as the impacts they can have on teaching and learning.

We’ll talk with EarthFix investigative reporter Tony Schick about the Inside the Box series, what they discovered about the environmental concerns associated with portable classrooms, and some alternative solutions for overcrowded districts. And we’ll hear from the Chief Operating Officer for the Puyallup School District, where one in five classrooms are portables.
