Reed College politic science professor Paul Gronke is one of over 1,000 observers keeping an eye on Ukraine’s presidential election on Sunday. The election will decide a successor to President Viktor Yanukovych, who was ousted in February. Since Yanukovych fled capital city of Kiev, the eastern states have been mired in violence and rebellion. That could pose a problem for the election in those parts of the country. This is the third time that Gronke will be an election watchdog in a foreign country. Previous trips took him to Kyrgyzstan and Albania.
