Editor’s note:This is an extended version of the conversation that aired today.
Oregon’s 5th Congressional District stretches from Tillamook to Newport on the coast and includes much of Clackamas and Marion counties as well. Democrat Kurt Schrader has represented the district since 2008. This year, Republicans Tootie Smith and Ben Pollock are vying for the chance to face off against Schrader in the fall.
Smith, 56, was elected as a Clackamas County Commissioner in 2012 as one of the candidates supporting the “Stop Portland Creep” message. From 2001-2005 she represented House District 18 (Silverton) in the Oregon legislature.
Pollock, 29, has worked as a political consultant for a number of campaigns, including Texas Governor Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential bid. He currently works as a vice president in his family’s business, SMS Auto Fabrics. Despite never having held public office, Pollock has outpaced his opponent in fundraising.
Schrader’s war chest is still much more substantial than either Pollock’s or Smith’s.
Do you live in the 5th district? Are you voting in the Republican primary? What questions do you have for the candidates?
