Judge Strikes Down Oregon's Ban On Same-Sex Marriage

OPB | May 19, 2014 12:06 p.m. | Updated: May 19, 2014 2:08 p.m.

UPDATE: May 19, 12:10pm: Judge Michael McShane has ruled that Oregon’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional.

As couples in Idaho and Arkansas react to recent rulings on same-sex marriage bans in those states, Judge Michael McShane has said he is prepared to rule on Oregon’s same-sex marriage ban Monday at noon.

On Wednesday, McShane denied the National Organization for Marriage’s motion to intervene in the case saying, “This is an Oregon case. It will remain an Oregon case.” The organization could still appeal that ruling.

If Judge McShane rules in favor of the couples seeking to strike down the ban on same-sex marriage, he will then set an effective date for same-sex couples to begin marrying across the state.

We will bring you the most up-to-date information on the ruling as it happens.
