Things are busy at the Oregon Capitol these days. Lawmakers are scrambling to schedule hearings on their bills before the April 8 deadline for committee hearings, after which many bills will be declared “dead.” We’ll catch up with OPB reporter Chris Lehman about a few interesting issues coming up this week:

  • An effort to legalize marijuana in Oregon
  • Proposed changes to last year’s ban on Native American mascots in Oregon schools
  • A bill that would roll back some mandatory sentencing laws and increase crime prevention efforts
  • Paid sick leave at the state level

We’ll have a discussion about different ideas for PERS reform tomorrow on the show and we’ll dig into some other issues next week when we’ll be broadcasting live from Salem.

What legislation have you been following this session?
