Vancouver City Council Considers Changes To Camping Ban

The Vancouver City Council moved forward on a change to its ban on public camping in its Monday night meeting. Jonathan Young, the chief assistant city attorney, says the city wants to avoid the potential conflicts that stem from a camping ban applied to a homeless population. He says the ordinance carves out times that the ban would not be enforced, effectively allowing people who are homeless to camp between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

The city council set a date for a second reading and a public hearing for next Monday, Sept. 21.
