The Washington city of North Bonneville is taking a proactive approach to the state’s new marijuana laws. The city council in the town of 1,005 voted unanimously to take the next step towards opening a pot store: establishing a public development authority to run the business.

Mayor Don Stevens says the city is more likely to prioritize complying with the law’s strict provisions than a business owner who might not have strong ties to the community.
